What is Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a bone disease that makes the body’s bone more dense and prone to breakage or fracture. Scientist and doctors are not yet sure what causes.  With Osteoporosis the bones can become so brittle that mild stress such as coughing or bending over can cause bone fractures,  Osteoporosis- related fractures can commonly occur in the spine, hip or wrist.

The bones are  a living tissue that is constantly being broken-down and built back up(replaced) Osteoporosis happens when the body is not creating enough new bone tissue to keep up with removal of the old bone.

Osteoporosis affects men and women of all ethnicities  and races. However older women, who are white or Asian, past the menopause, have the highest risk, There are a variety of things that can be done to reduce the risk of  osteoporosis, such as medications, healthy diets and wight-bearing exercise, that can help prevent bone loss and strengthen bones that are already weak bones.

There are usually no symptoms for Osteoporosis in the early stages. Usually after the bones are weakened by osteoporosis, these symptoms can include back pain, caused by  a fractured or  collapsed vertebra, loss in height over time. a stooped posture and bone fractures that occurs easier than normal.

There can be several causes of osteoporosis, Your body will produce new bone tissue as old tissue is broken down. When  a person is younger, the body will make new bone tissue than it breaks down old bone tissue and your bone mass will increase. Most people will reach their peak bone mass by the time they are in their early twenties. As a person ages the bone mass is lost faster than it is created.Osteoporosis prevention

The likelihood of developing osteoporosis will depend how much bone mass a person attained when he or she were younger, the higher your bone mass, the more you have and you will to withstand the likelihood of osteoporosis.

There are certain factors that can increase the risk of osteoporosis.  There are factors such as age, race, lifestyle choices, and medical conditions.There are risk. Your gender is a risk factor as women, have greater risk of the disease. The older a person is the greater his or her risk. People who are white and asian decent have higher risk. If there is family history of osteoporosis can put you a greater risk. Also men and women, who have a small body frame are at higher risk because they have less bone mass to dra fom the age.

Osteoporosis is more can be more common in poople that has too much hormones and too little hormones in their body.

If sex hormones are at lower levels,this can weaken the bone, The reduction of estrogen levels at menopause can be one of the most important factors for developing osteoporosis. Women may exercise a decline in estrogen through different types of cancer treatments. High thyroid levels can cause bone loss, This can occur because an overactive thyroid or taken too much medication for an under active thyroid can cause issues of bone loss.  Overactive parathyroid and adrenal glands can be associated with osteoporosis.

The Low calcium levels, a life time lack of calcium can be detrimental to bone density, early bone loss can cause increased risk of fractures. Easting disorders such as anorexia can increase the risk of osteoporosis due to reduce calcium and protein. Anorexia in women can stop menstruation leads to weaker bones. Procedures such as Gastrointestinal surgery can lead to intestine limits unable to absorbs nutrients, including calcium.Medications such as steroids, with prednisone and cortisone, interferes and bone -rebuilding process.

Lifestyle choices can play a role in osteoporosis. Sedentary lifestyle, spending alot of time sitting without weight-based exercise, that promote balance and good posture, can cause increased risk. Excessive alcoholic drinks, that are more than two a day. Tabacco also contributes to weak bones.
