(Grain disease, conjunctivitis trachomatosa) Trachoma is a chronic conjunctivitis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis and is characterized by progressive exacerbations and remissions. It is the leading cause of preventable blindness worldwide. Conjunctival hyperemia, eyelid edema, photophobia and epiphora are the early symptoms.
