Spectinomycin is a bacteriostatic antibiotic with aminoglycosides (aminoglycosides) is chemically related. Spectinomycin binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit and inhibits hereby protein synthesis. It is only effective against gonorrhea. Spectinomycin is excreted by glomerular filtration. Indications include gonococcal cervicitis proctitis Spectinomycin is not effective in gonokokkenbedingter pharyngitis. It is not available in the US, and where it is available, it is reserved for patients who can not be treated with ceftriaxone or cefixime plus azithromycin or doxycycline. Adverse effects included hypersensitivity reactions and fever rarely occur.
