(See also examination of headache patients.) Short duration neuralgiformer sided headache with conjunctival injection and lacrimation (SUNCT syndrome) is a rare headache disorder that is characterized by extremely frequent attacks of unilateral headaches and autonomous activation. The SUNCT is, as the cluster headache, a primary headache disorder and is characterized by unilateral pain in trigeminal innervation and autonomic symptoms. SUNCT and cluster headaches are sometimes grouped together as trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia. In SUNCT the attacks of pain are typically localized and periorbital extremely common (up to 200 per day), and they keep at 5-250 s. Conjunctival injections are often the most prominent feature autonomous; the tearing of the eyes may also be evident. Diagnosis Clinical examination Diagnosis of SUNCT is clinical. The SUNCT should be distinguished from trigeminal neuralgia, which causes similar symptoms; the SUNCT differs in that it has no refractory period. The pain predominantly in ophthalischen part of the trigeminal nerve occurs. The attacks of pain not caused by cutaneous stimuli. Indomethacin relieves the symptoms do not, as is the case with some other headache disorders. Therapy for acute attacks, i.v. Lidocaine for the prevention, anti-convulsants and / or occipital nerve stimulation or blockade Treatment of SUNCT can i.v. administration of lidocaine in case of acute attacks of pain include, and for the prevention anticonvulsants (z.
