Etiology Pannikulitis has several causes, including infections (the most common cause) Physical factors (eg. As cold injury) proliferative disorders of connective tissue diseases (eg. As SLE, systemic sclerosis) disorders of the pancreatic alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency Idiopathic panniculitis is sometimes known as Weber-Christian disease. Symptoms and complaints panniculitis is characterized by soft and erythematous subcutaneous nodules in the extremities and sometimes at the rear thorax, abdominal area, chest, face or buttocks. In rare cases, the nodules mesentery, lungs, scrotum and skull can invade. Signs of systemic inflammation may occur with panniculitis. In the Weber-Christian disease systemic involvement fever and signs of organ failure, including liver, pancreas and bone marrow failure, which can be potentially fatal, can cause.
