Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the nail plate, the nail bed, or both. The nails are deformed usually white or yellow and discolored. The diagnosis is made by means of appearance, native preparation, culture, PCR, or a combination thereof. Treatment, if indicated, consists of oral terbinafine or itraconazole.
