Nummular (microbial or discoid) dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin with coin or disk-like lesions. The diagnosis is made clinically. Treatment may include antibiotics, corticosteroids and UV therapy.
Nummular eczema usually affects middle-aged and elderly patients and is often associated with dry skin, especially in winter. Id-reactions can manifest as nummular eczema. The cause is unknown.

Symptoms and complaints The discoid lesions often start as a single spot with confluent vesicles and papules, the wet and encrusted later. Lesions are pruritic. It can occur 1-50 lesions, which usually have a diameter of 2-10 cm. Most especially the extensor surfaces of the extremities and the buttocks are concerned, however, the lesions can also occur on the trunk. Exacerbations often alternate with remissions, with new lesions usually occur at the points already healed lesions.
