There are various types of mites that can bite. Most common are different kinds of mites (Trombiculidae). Their larvae are, except in very dry areas, outdoor ubiquitous. The larvae bite into, to drink their fill in the skin and fall off again. Outside the US, there are Trombiculidae that (Rickettsia tsutsugamushi) (Busch fever) can be infected with Rickettsia. Unlike other mite species, they do not form a feeding passage in the skin. Often they are so small that you can not see it on the skin surface. Other species of mites are for different Skabiesformen (also known as scabies, scabies) responsible. These mites bite and burrow into the skin. The best known species are the Sarcoptes scabiei and the Demodex mite. Various dermatitis can be caused by mites that occasionally attack humans. Normally they live as ectoparasites on birds, rodents or pets. Some of these mites also come from plants, stored food or animal feed. Bird mites can infest people who come into contact with live poultry or pet birds or who have bird nests at their home. Rodent mites from cats and dogs (especially puppies) and rabbits may bite humans. Pig scabies mites (Sarcoptes scabiei) in the pig or pigs as pets can also infect humans. The pot belly mite (Pyemotes tritici) is the most common trigger of grain scabies. It often happens to seeds, straw, hay or other vegetable materials; it exists as a parasite on unarmored insects that live in these materials. These mites often infect people who handle the infested objects. Particularly at risk are workers in granaries, people who have to do with grass seed or hay, or florist, arranging dried flowers. Allergic dermatitis or grocery store itching is caused by different types of mites associated with stored grains, cheese and other foods. These mites do not bite, but may have an allergic dermatitis result because people are allergic to the mites or their waste products. Dust mites do not affect the skin, they feed on skin flakes in pillows, mattresses and floors (especially on carpet). therefore, these dust mites earn as much attention because many people have a hypersensitivity to allergens of this mite and its excrement. Symptoms and signs Most mites bites cause a kind of pruritic dermatitis; itching after a bite larvae is particularly intense. Diagnosis Clinical evaluation The diagnosis of non buried mites bite is suspected because of the history of the patient (eg. As place of residence, place of work and leisure environments) and physical examination. The mites themselves are rarely found because they can fall off after the bite, so the skin reaction is often delayed, and patients seek medical attention only after a few days. Moreover, other skin conditions can have a similar picture, z. B. bites by other insects, contact dermatitis or folliculitis. The diagnosis of grave mites can often be encouraged about the prehistory and a scabies-like pattern on the skin. If the diagnosis is unclear or if the treatment is ineffective, the diagnosis can be confirmed by a skin biopsy. Treatment Topical corticosteroids or oral antihistamines Antimicrobial therapy in grave mites For the treatment of scabies, scabies: Treatment The treatment of non grave mites is symptomatic. In order to make the itching tolerable be employed topical corticosteroids and oral antihistamines as needed to control the pruritus until the hypersensitivity reaction has subsided. The treatment of a mite infestation by mites not grave is purely symptomatic nature. By the doctor discusses with the patient sources of mite infestation, it can support him to prevent further exposure. At infestation by Demodex a veterinary consultation is needed.
