The treatment is effected by the administration of corticosteroids and treatment of the cause. The erythroderma is the manifestation of an accelerated epidermal cell turnovers. Its cause is unknown, but it occurs most often in the context of already existing skin conditions (eg. As atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, PRP) use of drugs (eg., Penicillin, sulfonamides, isoniazid, phenytoin, barbiturates) cancer (eg. as lymphomas, mycosis fungoides, leukemia and rare adenocarcinomas) no underlying disease is present in up to 25% of patients. Bacterial superinfection can worsen exfoliative dermatitis. Symptoms and signs Symptoms include pruritus, malaise and chills. The diffuse erythema occurs initially patchy on, then spreads, however, and includes almost the entire body. Through the extensive peeling of the epidermis may cause problems of temperature regulation, nutrient deficiency due to extensive protein loss, increased metabolic rate with hyperkatabolem status and hypovolemia by the transdermal water loss.
