Dermatofibromas

(Benign fibrous histiocytoma)

Dermatofibromas are solid, reddish brown, small papules or nodules of fibroblastic tissue. They occur usually on the thighs or legs, but can occur anywhere.

Dermatofibromas are common among adults; they are more common in women. Its cause is probably genetic. The lesions are usually 0.5 to 1 cm in diameter, fixed and can be lowered with gentle inward pressing. Most lesions are asymptomatic, some itching or ulceration after minor injuries.
