Postpartum Pyelonephritis

Pyelonephritis is a bacterial infection of the renal parenchyma. Pyelonephritis may occur postpartum when bacteria ascend from the bladder. The infection can begin as asymptomatic bacteriuria during pregnancy and sometimes occur in conjunction with a bladder catheterization to remove a Urinaufstaus during or after birth.
