Anthrax

Anthrax is caused by Bacillus anthracis toxin-producing, bekapselte, facultative anaerobic organisms. Anthrax is an often fatal disease in animals that can be transmitted by contact with infected animals or animal products to humans. Infect humans are typically characterized by a skin injury. An infection by the respiratory route is less common; oropharyngeal, meningeal and gastrointestinal infections are rare. When inhaled and gastrointestinal infections occur after nonspecific local symptoms usually after several days of severe systemic symptoms, shock and often death. Empirically, ciprofloxacin or doxycycline is applied. A vaccine is available.
